about us

WHO ARE WE?

BACKGROUND

We are Bakayola Arts center and we give children in the slums in Kenya the opportunity to develop themselves by teaching them to create drums, play percussion and dance by sharing our cultural heritage trough rhythm and dance. We guide them to keep them focused on the good things in life and let them forget the daily problems, motivate them to go to school and give them opportunity to be an artist! And now we are bringing our passion and work to abroad so we can share the special effects of playing percussion for the youth.

what we do

OUR PROJECT ABROAD

In cooperation with Festival Op Roakeldais and the Art church Hogeland we succeeded a cooperation and reached some 1200 high school kids in the age from 13-18 years old. During the inspiration classes we have send videos about our lives back in the slums of Nairobi. How do we live? What do we eat? What are our challenges in life? In fase 2 we went and brought our drums and workshops to the highschools. In fase 3 we worked with the most talented and motivated kids to perform together on stage at Festival Op Roakeldais! Making and creating music and work on confidence to explore new things!
